Open House
Los Altos, California
The existing house was located on a private, suburban flag lot. The rooms were small, dark, and disconnected, with little engagement of the landscape. The request was to make a more open, lively and connected home.
A new living space was formed by joining the living spaces and opening up the wall to the yard with sliding doors taking advantage of the privacy of the site. The resulting space is bright, well connected to the front and rear yards, and animated by the color landscape beyond. As with many of our projects, we see the outside as part of the inside and vice versa designing the site as an integrated whole. The family can now spend time together, even when they are doing separate activities.
